“Open up the doors and let the music play
Let the streets resound with singing
Songs that bring your hope
Songs that bring your joy
Dancers who dance upon injustice”

Pentecost last Sunday was amazing across the parish…..

At St Andrew's Church, the focus was on the power and creativity of the Holy Spirit: present in Creation, present with Jesus in his ministry and resurrection, and present with all who ask God into their lives. During communion, each person was anointed with oil and prayed for, asking for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit for their life, work, and witness.

At St Michael's Church, Pentecost prompted reflection on the gifts of the Spirit alive within the church community today — asking what Spirit-gifting God is expressing among us here in Waikanae right now.

Meanwhile at St Luke's Church, the church was transformed into a vibrant visual celebration of Pentecost. This included a suspended design above the sanctuary featuring the descending red tongues of flame and the gentle hovering doves, and the red and orange heart shaped “Thy Kingdom Come” prayer messages that were attached to the pillars from the previous Sunday. We were also treated to an insightful and personally challenging sermon on Pentecost and the Holy Spirit from Dr Andrew Shepherd.

Different expressions, different emphases — yet across the parish there was a shared sense of celebration, expectation, and openness to the Spirit of God at work among us. It was a special morning.

…….AND, it also left us wanting more. More of God. That was the feeling at our staff meeting, that was the feeling running into people at cafes and conversations during the week, that was the feeling talking to people outside the church in our local community.

So this Sunday we are looking forward once more to what God will do. Trinity Sunday…..worshipping and experiencing the fullness of who God really is….. together

Praying at St Lukes today - “Come Holy Spirit”

“Biblical “waiting” is not wasted time. It is proactive and it is expectant. It believes that God is working things out for good and that we can take part in prayer. It is God forming something within us, through us, and in the world in his time and for his purpose”
