Recently I was fortunate enough to go to a conference in Auckland. It was for spiritual directors from around New Zealand. At the end of the four days, each person was asked to give a word or phrase that summed up their experience there.  Mine was Re-Sourced.

I came away feeling re-connected to the Source, and with inner resources that are meant not only for me, but to be shared with others. It was a rich experience, rather like the words of St John’s Gospel: “those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” (John 4:14).

As I reflect on this conference and what it has given me (and many others), what was it that made it so satisfying ?

  • inspiring input from the main speaker – Alexander Shaia (www.alexanderjshaia.com), who brought a combination of prayerful reflection on the Gospel, good scholarship, humility and grace;
  • time and space to reflect on what was offered, and to begin to digest it;
  • wonderful fellow Christians with whom to share the experience, with tears and joy, knowing that what was shared would be respected;
  • a Christian community, the Body of Christ in Waikanae, in which to live out what has been given.

These four elements may be a path for each of us, as we seek to be re-sourced.
