As we continue our journey through the book of Acts we find today that Paul is in trouble. He has arrived in Jerusalem even though the Holy Spirit warned him that trouble was ahead, and that he was going to face a time of trial and hardship and today’s reading shows us the beginnings of Paul’s imprisonment that will eventually lead him to Rome.

Isn’t it interesting how the people of the church in Jerusalem heard Paul’s testimony, praised God for his work then said ‘BUT’.

How often have we done this ourselves? How often have we praised with one hand and slapped with the other.

When I was a dog handler in the Police, we used one hand for praise and the other for command. Our dogs knew which was which. In our world though, the other hand is often hidden.

The people in Jerusalem knew how effective Paul’s work had been and their strategy was to discredit Paul so that his work would be weakened.  We need to be alert when we hear accusations against God’s workers.  Some may be trying to discredit or hinder God’s work. Keep an open mind and pray for the workers as they will be strengthened by your support.

Shalom
