Mucky Pups

Mucky Pups happens at St Michael’s, Rangihiroa street, Waikanae Beach, for littlies, and their carers. Every Thursday during term time, from 9.30am until 11.30am. The coffee will be on, and there are usually some yummy cakes on offer. Most weeks we finish off with some nursery rhymes too!

Thank you to all of you who have expressed your affection for Mucky Pups and your desire to see the playgroup restart again. Unfortunately we are not currently in a position to make a decision about reopening before the start of this coming term.

As you know, our reason for being in recess is in regards to meeting Health and Safety criteria. One way in which we can move forward with our decision regarding re-opening is to ascertain what support parents are willing to give. To consider restarting Mucky Pups we would need to have a roster of 2 parents each session who would be the “leaders” for that day. The role would not be onerous – we can set out the responsibilities for you – but you would need to be there for the whole session. Realistically we would probably need an additional 2 or 3 parents who would be willing to be on call as back up in the event of sickness or unavailability.

If you are prepared to be one of those primary, or back-up, leaders would you please let Tori Pinfold know over the next couple of weeks at tori@anglican.co.nz or message us on this page. This will enable us to make a more informed decision as we consider our options regarding restarting Mucky Pups.

IMPORTANT: Mucky Pups will not be running this term. We regret the suddenness of this decision but this is a health and safety matter. More information can be found in the attached letter below. Please spread the word amongst your contacts and we will do our best to communicate to all who we are in contact with.

Mucky Pups Playgroup in Immediate Recess

At a meeting last Monday evening Vestry-the leadership group of the Anglican Parish-received a proposal for additional staffing for Mucky Pups Playgroup.

In considering the proposal it had become clear, with recent re-certification in June, that Mucky Pups was not a safe working environment in terms of the staffing numbers required under the health and safety regulations. It was drawn to our attention that it should not be continuing to operate in breach of these requirements.

On that basis Vesty had to take the only responsible decision available to put Mucky Pups into recess with immediate effect. The length of the recess will be contingent upon finding staffing and operating solutions to ensure that it is compliant and is a safe environment for all those who attend.

We regret the suddenness of this decision but we know that you will appreciate that the safety of the children, the parents and the volunteers is paramount and that the Parish, as the sponsor of Mucky Pups, must operate a compliant operation.

As we work through the various issues we will let you know when we might be likely to restart Mucky Pups.
