Core Groups are appointed (between 3 and 10) by each congregation (together with the relevant Clergyperson) and:

The Core Groups are to:
- To seek the Holy Spirit’s direction for all their work
- To intentionally implement the Vision, Mission, and Values of the parish as they apply to their congregation.
- To maintain accountability to the Vestry under whose authority they function.

Core Groups are responsible for

Outworking the Mission, Vision, and Values of the parish

Developing the pastoral care team

Developing an evangelistic strategy

Creating fellowship events that mature the friendships within their congregation

Outworking the Vestry’s Yearly Parish Plan

Resourcing the children’s and youth programmes with prayer and practical support

Caring for Lay Ministers and Worship Assistants

Note: The Vicar/Clergyperson overseeing a congregation is responsible for the service content and format and the management of any music/worship teams/choirs (Dioscesan Manual, page 79).

In the Parish of Waikanae we look for Core Group Members who:
- Are active in their congregations
- Are available to take part in the Core Group meetings for at least 12 months
- Support the Lay Ministers and Worship Assistants for their congregation
- Are able to help to create fellowship events that nurture the friendships within their congregation
- Support their Pastoral Team with prayer and encouragement
- Lead the parish by word and example in their daily lives
- Understand and help work out the parish Mission, Vision, and Values as agreed by the Vestry from time to time
- Are able to take concerns from their congregation to their Core Group and articulate these. Can function in a group and participate in group discussion.
