The primary duty of the Vestry are set out in clause 29 of the Diocesan Manual and are as follows:

To promote the worship of almighty God and to provide all things that are necessary for the ordering of public worship

To take council together for the fostering of the spirirtual growth and well-being of the parishioners, to bring before the parishioners the claims on them of the mission of the church in their community and in the world at large, and generally to promote the extension of Christ’s kingdom;

To encourage all emmbers of the parish to grow in the faith and service of Christ by the power of this spirit, and in particular to see that Christian education is provided for all age groups;

To administer and undertake the business affairs of the parish and to provide and care for buildings, furnishings, and equipment needed for good working of the Parish.
In a nutshell the Vestry is a group of parishioners who are:

Guardians of the Mission Statement, Vision, and Values

United in the Holy Spirit
-
The spiritual leadership of the church
-
Supportive encouragers and co-workers with the clergy
-
Responsible for policy matters and staff appointments
-
Informated aabout the parish and the life of the wider church
And the Vestry DOES

Spend time in prayer before, during, and after meeting
-
Respect one another and listen to each other and to parishioners
-
Inform the whole parish of its business and decisions
-
Arrive at unified decisions whilst aiming for consensus

Delegate in order to use the gifts of all and to be permission giving
