The central meeting and focal point of any church are the worship gatherings. Waikanae Anglican Parish offers a number of worship services. The unique feature about Waikanae Anglican Parish is that it contains a variety of worship styles. The variation is quite remarkable that sometimes we really do wonder whether we are all part of the same local church! As a church with an eclectic mix of styles you can choose a worship style that suits you. Once you‘ve found where you fit we encourage you to be an active participant of that worship community and connect with those in that community.

You will also notice that services are provided at different times on a Sunday and throughout the week. Should a Sunday morning simply be unworkable for you or your family you might like to consider attending a mid-week service.

our history top

Our Parish has a proud history of 170 years of ministry. Our origins define our spiritual DNA, and will determine its future because that's who we really are deep down.

Our Parish’s mission station origin dates back to November 1839. Octavius Hadfield was commissioned by the Church Missionary Society base in the Bay of Islands in response to a request for a missionary by the Tangata Whenua. He did not come to the Kapiti Coast to start a mission but to encourage the existing work of God amongst the Maori living in Waikanae and Otaki.

This section details the beginnings of Christianity on the Kapiti Coast, and a brief biograghy of the first european missionary, Octavious Hadfield, to the Kapiti Coast.

Waikanae Anglican Parish is part of the Wellington Anglican Diocese and is therefore under the oversight of the Bishop of Wellington and the Wellington Diocesan Acts. As the Parish has multiple congregations each with their own distinct cultures the Parish instituted an organisational model to help support the clergy and Vestry to fulfill their oversight responsibilities.
