Ask not what your church can do for you, but what you can do for your church! These are strong words! These words require a shift from me-centred to other-centred. They require commitment and action. They require contribution to a community, to something greater than myself. We all have a place and a part to play in the “body of Christ” (i.e. local church). This section describes how you can get involved and be part of Waikanae Anglican Parish. To achieve our mission we need people to commit, to lock themselves into service and become a vital part of the parish.

Our passion is that you will not just be an observer as part of a voluntary association, but an essential and active part of a covenant community. The content here is designed to give you an opportunity to learn, serve, and to grow. To get involved and get your hands dirty! Be an essential part of Waikanae Anglican Parish!

"Our chief purpose is to love the Lord with all your heart - this is what it means to worship. The church exists to worship God. How do we love God with all our heart? By worshiping him!"Rick Warren (1995). Purpose driven church. Zondervan.

We each have a personal responsibility to worship God. This section provides information on how you can get involved in the worship activities of our parish.

"As Christians we are called to belong, not just to believe. We are not meant to live lone ranger lives; instead, we are to belong to Christ's family and be members of his body...We have each other for support...I love the way Ephesians 2:19 is phrased in the Living Bible: "You are members of God's own family ... and you belong to God's household with every other Christian." The church exists to provide fellowship [or community] for believers."  Rick Warren (1995), The purpose driven church. Zondervan.

This section provides information on how you can be involved and supported in our parish community through the work of small groups. Check these out below and get involved!!

discipleship top

Discipleship is all about transformation not information. It is about equipping and growing people to reach their potential and make a difference in this world.

Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

As followers of Jesus we are commanded to go and make disciples of all nations, At Waikanae Anglican Parish we take the great commission seriously and therefore offer a number of fantastic discipleship programmes for your delectation. We encourage you to get involved, get learning, outwork your faith, and be transformed by the renewal of your mind.

In this section we outline the teaching programmes available within the parish; sermons (recorded at our Connect service) that you can download; and a host of personal development and leadership books that are recommended reading. Go on, take advantage of the wealth of resource!!

Jesus said “My house shall be a house of prayer for all the nations.” Matthew 21:13. During his time on earth, it is clear that Jesus valued his prayer life, giving it priority over many other demands on his time and energy. As his disciples, we need to follow his example (Ann Roberts, Prayer Director_ The Rock® Church).

Prayer is the primary way in which we commune and relate to God. It is also the foundation and engine room for everything we do at Waikanae Anglican Paish. Each of us has a God given purpose, and he has equipped us – in our individual ways – to carry out our assignments using the incredible power of prayer.

There are several ways of being involved in parish life through prayer groups. You can also share your prayer needs. We have a number of people who would be honoured to pray confidentially for you.

"The church exists to communicate God's Word. We are  ambassadors for Christ, and our mission is to evangelize the world...The task of evangelism is so important, Christ actually gave us five Great Commissions, in each of the gospels, and one in the book of Acts. In Matthew 28-19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 24: 47-49, John 20:21, and Acts 1:8 Jesus commissions us to go and tell the world the message of salvation." Rick Warren (1995). The purpose driven church. Zondervan.

There are many ways in which we can share our faith with others. This section contains missional initiatives or programmes that are currently operative within the parish; and describes how you can be involved. Go on! You know you can do it!

Our Parish is totally dependent on the support of its congregation. We do not receive any general funds from the Anglican church. Our income consists entirely of giving from the congregation, so thank you very much for your support.
